Master of Science

The Master's program in International Economic Policy is an internationally oriented program that trains students in the application of theoretical and empirical economic analysis.

Graduates of the Master's program will be prepared for a wide range of topics relevant to economics and public policy.



General Information

The Master's degree program in International Economic Policy is unique in Bavaria and offers a flexible course design as well as the opportunity to think outside the box. Graduates of this course have excellent qualifications for a professional career in the private or public sector or for an academic career.

  • Standard duration of study: 4 semesters
  • Language of instruction: English, electives partly in German
  • Scope: 120 ECTS
  • Start: Winter and summer semester
  • Application deadline: July 15 (winter semester), January 15 (summer semester)











Admission

The following is required for admission to the Master's degree program in International Economic Policy:

  • Bachelor's degree with proven skills in economics, business administration, mathematics and statistics (at the time of application)
  • English language skills: at least CEFR B2 level
  • Non-EU students: In addition to the online application, a VDP application is required

Study contents

The M.Sc. in International Economic Policy is an internationally oriented program that prepares students for sophisticated theoretical and empirical analyses in economic and policy issues. Core topics are microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics.

Students have the opportunity to complete exchange semesters at partner universities abroad or to study the second half of the Master's degree at the Universities of Ghent (Belgium) or Verona (Italy). This enables them to obtain a double degree.

Course structure

ECTS-Credits

Core segment (20 ECTS)

teaches basic principles of international economic policy in the first two semesters

Core electoral segment (40 ECTS)

Students have the opportunity to choose eight courses in the first three semesters and deepen their interests

Electives (20 ECTS)

Four courses can be freely selected in the second and third semesters depending on interests and professional goals

Practical or research seminar (10 ECTS)

In the third semester, practical skills are taught and practiced as part of a practical or research seminar. In addition, research topics are developed, discussed and scientific findings are generated

Master's thesis (30 ECTS)

Students develop their Master's thesis step by step, starting with the basics and ending with a discussion of current political or research-related issues in a seminar of their choice

IEP Lecture Series

Students have the unique opportunity to discuss current economic policy topics with well-known politicians and renowned researchers in our biannual IEP Lecture Series.

Renowned experts such as Prof. Dr. Veronika Grimm or Peter Altmaier enrich our academic community and offer fascinating insights into economic policy debates.

Studying abroad

Double Degree Program

The Double Degree Program is a tuition-free and integrated international study program. With the Double Degree you will study two semesters at the University of Würzburg and two at an international partner university - University of Ghent (Belgium) or University of Verona (Italy). Lessons are taught in English.

additional degrees to the M. Sc. of the University of Würzburg:

  • M.Sc. Economics (Ghent)
  • Laurea Magistrale Economics/Data Analysis (Verona)

This means that two Master's degrees from two universities can be obtained in just two years.

Studying abroad

Semester abroad



In addition to the double degree program, students have the opportunity to study at renowned foreign universities for one or two semesters through the faculty's Erasmus+ program or through partnership programs.

Advantages:

  • Valuable insights into international business structures
  • Improvement of language skills

From the 2nd semester onwards, up to two semesters can be used for a stay abroad. The credits earned abroad are recognized as electives during your studies.
